Updated 2/3/25
Organizations interested in streamlining the account creation process for their earners, while still empowering their earners to manage their own account, can implement SAML SSO on our platform. Because the earner owns the account and all subsequent badges, organizations cannot create accounts for the earners. (We no longer offer token authentication for SSO.)
SAML SSO
Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) is an open standard that many organizations already use.
- This can streamline the account creation process for earners
- When implemented, earners will only have to provide a password in order to create their account on the Credly platform if they access Credly via SAML SSO
- An earner’s identity is immediately verified by the issuing organization
- This process bypasses the otherwise required email confirmation step
- Once an earner has an account on the Credly platform, they will no longer be required to sign in on the Credly platform when using the SSO workflow
Please note:
- Can be used for earners or admins, but can only be REQUIRED for Admins
- If required for Admins, they will only be able to see Org Management when logging in via their SSO connection
- Many organizations who use SAML will be using an "Identity Service Provider (ISP)." The most common two are Active Directory from Microsoft and Okta. We do support Active Directory.
Setting up SAML SSO on Credly requires notifying your CSM you would like this feature. They will activate it and then you will see in the Developers tab, the SAML Settings option to configure.
Once the setup and configuration are completed and verified, users will be able to SSO into Credly. If the user is not a current Credly user, they will be given an opportunity to sign up on Credly with an expedited account creation process. Users will still be required to establish a password directly with Credly so they can access their account outside of the SSO.
