What’s a retroactive badge? (aka historical badge)

Updated 4/19/23

Retroactive badges (aka historical badges) are similar to paying a past due bill. You might have missed the 30 day window, but the payee still wants their money.

Let’s use Jane as an example. Jane completed training with you in 2020, but for some reason, you weren’t able to issue the badge. Now in 2021, Jane writes to ask about the badge. When you issue to Jane - and backdate the issue to 2020 - that is a retroactive badge. It is issued more than 30 days from when the earner qualified for the badge.

Retroactive badges display in the analytics dashboard. If you export the report, you will see the issued at date (when the earner qualified) and the created date (when you sent the badge).

If you want to exclude the retroactive badges from your view, you can control this under the More button.

Historically, retroactive badges have a slightly lower acceptance rate, so we encourage timely issuance as much as possible. However, sometimes you simply need to catch up!
