What are recommendations? How can I add a recommendation to a template?

What are recommendations?

Recommendations are a powerful metadata field that guides earners to next steps they can take after accepting a badge. Through recommendations, you can direct earners to another badge in your program (if they’re sequential or closely related) or a URL exposing them to another valuable opportunity.

Examples of recommendations:

• Learning materials with additional training
• Links to events, online communities, or memberships
• Promotional offers or discount codes
• Surveys or general marketing 

With the recommendations feature, admins can:

• Create recommendations that can be applied to multiple badge templates
• See a full list of all recommendations created within the organization
• View analytics related to the performance of their recommendations

Note: Only users with the ability to create and edit badge templates are able to create new recommendations.

Creating a recommendation

You can create recommendations through the “Recommendations” tab in your organization’s profile. To create a new recommendation, click on the “Add Recommendation” button and select one of the recommendation types:

• Badge
• Education
• Employment
• Information
• Offer
• Participation

If choosing the “badge” type, select the badge you would like to display as a recommendation. Note: Only published badge templates will display in this dropdown list. 

For all other recommendation types, include a URL, the text you would like to display as the recommendation name, and (optionally) a brief description of the recommendation.

Saved recommendations can be found in the main Recommendations tab and are available to apply to any of your badge templates.

Adding a Recommendation to a badge template:

1. The most direct method is to navigate to the Settings tab when looking at a badge template.
   
   
   
   
   
   
2. Alternatively, you can click on the Recommendations tab and select the recommendation you would like to add a badge template to. Click “Edit”.
3. Click “Add Templates” and select the badge template(s) you would like that recommendation added to.
4. Click “Apply” to allow earners of the badge(s) to see the recommendation when viewing their badge

Keep in mind, you can add multiple recommendations to a specific badge through each badge template.

Earner Experience

Recommendations are only visible when an earner is viewing their own badge. They display under the “Recommended” header at the bottom of an earner’s badge metadata page.
